Sending out a prayer to all those who have had challenges with home—not feeling comfortable in your home for whatever reason or not having a home, especially now for those affected by the recent earthquake in Indonesia.
Having roots, a home base, a foundation somewhere is an essential starting point—essential even for wanderlust, to know there is some place to come back to, some place where we belong on this earth. Easy to take for granted if you have it.
It’s even more important to have that foundation within, that isn’t based on a material place or structure (as in the piece on humility from January: “…to have a blessed home in myself where I can go in and shut the door and kneel to my Father in secret and be at peace…”). But these words can ring hollow when you don’t have a roof over your head, when it’s not easy to live this with grace.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6
God is love, and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. I John 4:16
And my people shall dwell in a peacable habitation and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Isaiah 32:18
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Psalm 27:4
